Everything you need to know about Wattmeister

Do I need a smart trainer with ERG mode?

No, but recommended. While Wattmeister works with any trainer, a smart trainer with ERG mode provides the best experience. ERG mode automatically adjusts resistance to match your target power—no manual adjustment needed. This gives you precise interval training where the workout controls the effort, not your gears.

What sensors are supported?

Wattmeister supports Bluetooth LE sensors including heart rate monitors, power meters (Cycling Power service), and speed/cadence sensors. You can save your favorite devices for quick connection on future sessions.

Can I export activities to other cycling platforms?

Yes! Wattmeister exports activities in .fit format, which is compatible with all major cycling platforms.

What is FTP and do I need it?

FTP (Functional Threshold Power) is the foundation of your training zones. While helpful for structured training, you can still use Wattmeister without knowing your FTP. The app includes an FTP estimator that calculates it based on your workout data.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, new users get a free trial period to explore all features. You can create workouts, test sensor connectivity, and try all functionality before subscribing.

What platforms are supported?

Wattmeister is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch). Mobile apps for iOS and Android are coming soon.

Can I create workouts without a smart trainer?

Absolutely. You can create detailed workouts with various step types (warm up, bike, recover, rest, cooldown) and targets (power, heart rate, cadence). Even without a smart trainer, you can follow along manually or use the workout as a guide for outdoor riding.
